Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation
Founded by the AANS in 1981, the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) has become the premier foundation supporting neurosurgical research studies. The NREF focuses its grant funding on well-conceived basic science, patient-oriented clinical and outcomes research projects for young neurosurgeons and neurosurgical residents in North America. The NREF supports cutting-edge scientific investigations in areas such as aneurysms, biomaterials, brain tumors, epilepsy, low back pain, Parkinson’s disease, spine disorders, sport-related injuries, and stem-cells – leading to advances in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. These research projects address necessary improvements in patient care and quality of life.
Our Mission Statement
The Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) remains firm in its mission to provide a private, non-governmental source of funding for research training in the neurosciences. The generous support of the NREF by individuals, groups, practices and corporate supporters enables the Foundation to fulfill its commitment to support young scientists and their work as well as proactively address the ever-expanding need for research grant support in the most cost efficient and effective manner possible. We need the continued support of our neurosurgical community to provide talented young investigators the financial resources needed in their efforts to expand our specialty. The NREF is proud to work closely with Columbia University to secure much-needed support for important brain tumor and neuro-oncology research grants.
